We can’t stop time; but we can ride on it, more like a horse or a car, taking you where you want. In the two books the writer just does that. He puts you on the front seat as he drives through different cultures, landscapes and periods of history- his universe.
His reflections while in different parts of Kenya, his homeland, and the world is the hallmark of the two books. He reflects what we might think is mundane and obvious; then from there takes you across different time zones; at times through millennia.
He seems a lucky man, having lived through the colonial period, post independent Kenya and in Canada as well as the USA. It’s probably this diversity of homes, including the fact that he studied literature with Maths that has left his mind restless, in a good way.
