marshes being within an hour's march. These salt marshes extend from the Lufubu to the westward, to the Lualaba to the eastward. The salt from this district supplies the whole country from Tanganyika to Kasai. I visited, among others, a rather curious salt-pit at the bottom of a dark narrow gorge of triangular shape.
